May is AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Heritage Month
Asian
American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is an annual celebration in May
that recognizes the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and
groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. In 1990 the
U.S. Congress expanded the weekly observance every May to a month-long
celebration. In 1992 under George W. Bush’s administration a proclamation was passed,
and Asian/Pacific American Month was renamed as AAPI Heritage Month.
