Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement and is the holiest day in Judaism and Samaritanism. Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Wednesday, October 1st, and ends on Thursday evening, October 2nd—the last of the ten days of penitence that began with Rosh Hashanah.
Yom Kippur completes the period known in the Jewish faith as the High Holy Days that begin with Rosh Hashanah.
