Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is an annual celebration in May that recognizes the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent to the United States. In 1990 the U.S. Congress expanded the weekly observance every May to a month-long celebration. In 1992, under George W. Bush’s administration, a proclamation was passed and Asian/Pacific American Month was renamed as AAPI Heritage Month.
